Structured Query Language (SQL) is the language used to work with databases and the information stored within them. In this course students will learn to query a database to SELECT the data with which they want to work. Students will use SQL to create, edit and delete data tables. Students will learn to create views, functions, and stored procedures. Students will need access to a database that uses SQL commands. The book for the course includes a trial edition of Microsoft's SQL Server 2000.

Course Objectives
- Students will install the SQL Server demo and explore the basics of relational databases.
- Students will write SQL statements to retrieve data from single and related tables.
- Students will write SQL statements to create summary queries and subqueries.
- Students will write SQL queries to edit data in the database.
- Students will design a database and use the Enterprise Manager to manage the database.
- Students will create views of their SQL data and code SQL scripts.
- Students will write stored procedures, functions and triggers.
- Students will write SQL cursors to retrieve and modify data.
- Students will write SQL code to manage transactions and to secure the database.
- Students will create an SQL project to demonstrate what they have learned in this course.
