This class is a continuation of the Introduction to Visual Basic class. At the end of this class students will be able to create classes and objects and use them to create new classes and objects using inheritance and polymorphism. Students will be able to create graphics, read and write data to files and work with databases. Students will be introduced to using Visual Basic for building web-based applications. Students will need a copy of Visual Studio. A 30-day trial version is available.

Course Objectives

  • Students will create Visual Basic .NET applications that use dates, strings and array objects.
  • Students will be able to create Visual Basic .NET applications to write to and read from files.
  • Students will be able to create Visual Basic .NET applications to read and write XML documents.
  • Students will be able to build classes, class libraries and interfaces using Visual Basic .NET.
  • Students will be able to describe databases organization for multi-user relational databases.
  • Students will be able to write a Visual Basic .NET application to read a set of records from a database and display them on a form using a data grid control.
  • Students will be able to create Visual Basic .NET applications that can add, edit or delete data stored in a database.
  • Students will be able to create an ASP.NET Application using the Web Form tool in Visual Basic .NET development environment.
  • Students will be able to create and use a web services application using Visual Basic .NET.
  • Students will build a Visual Basic .NET application using what they learned in this class.

Prerequisites

This course is a continuation of the Visual Basic .NET Introduction course. Students should have completed that course or be familiar with the topics covered in that course.

Requirements

To learn Visual Basic online you will need a copy of Visual Studio or Visual Basic Express.
